The bus to Moalboal is located at the Cebu South Bus terminal. You can either ride an aircon or non-aircon bus. I arrived at the terminal around 10:15 in the morning and when I check the bus going to Moalboal, I found out that the current bus which is to leave at 10:30 is non-aircon. I opted to wait for the aircon bus which will leave 11:00 AM. There is always a bus for you to Moalboal every 30 minutes but if you are choosy and want an air-conditioned bus then it would be every hour. You also need to be careful because the bus you need to ride is generally going to Bato. Buses to Bato has two routes, one passing Moalboal and the other passing Oslob. Please ensure that you are not on the wrong bus.
It is not also good to go there when there is a typhoon or LPA near the area. The waves are big and the underwater visibility is not clear. The sardines are there all year round, so you need not to worry. The best time to dive is early in the morning where you can experience the tranquility and calmness of the world underwater.
I was not lucky that time for I have to swim against strong waves and has very short visibility under the water (zero visibility in shallow part). I even lost some of my courage to be with the sardines but the number of tourists swimming the area boost my confidence to carry on with this sardines adventure. At first sight of the sardines, I feel like nothing (just seen them so time to tick a box in my bucket list). But when I find my self among them, I turned around (360 degrees) and seen them everywhere, a different feeling comes in which made me say that it is worth getting here in spite of everything. I slowly understand the pack of foreigners who constantly visit the area.
Moalboal Backpackers Lodge is the haven of visiting young foreigners. On my first day, I was the only local so I just hide in my room, haha!! Why should I make my nose bleed when I can relax inside my private room with my "duyan". I missed sitting down a hammock and fortunately I have it exclusively for two days. My room is not soundproof so I can hear their talks. It seems to me that they purposely choose to stay in a dorm type accommodation to meet other visiting young tourist. At night, they are all busy getting to know each other and talking about where they came from.
Swimming with the sardines while riding with the strong waves is not an easy task. It makes me more hungry than ever. I was thinking of eating at the lodge that I was staying but they will not serve me rice. So I took my shade and walked under Mr. Sun Smiling Warmly to look for rice. I end up with Roadside Eatery.
Then I notice that I am not only hungry, I am also very thirsty. My mind shouted fruit shake yet there is none. I end up with buko juice. Do not get me wrong, I love buko but if you eat it from the shell then it is not cold. While, I was sipping, I thought of running a buko store where buko is soaked first on ice before being serve.
The owner is nice. She offered me soup for free. The rice is colorful too, we do not have that kind in our home. What I like it the most is that I am super busog (full) yet I am only paying 140 pesos.
