A Road Trip in Davao

Inside the van was chaos (joke). Haha, we cannot blame ourselves because it was our first time to be in Davao. The city is famous because of Durian, our national fruit. We do not have these trees in Cebu so we were all excited to see it. The kids were shouting "DURIAN" while on the road.

That was why we decided to stop beside one of the fruit stalls along the road. We challenged these kids to eat Durian. That was another lasting moment of their childhood. After this taste challenge they were not chanting D-U-R-I-A-N anymore but M-A-R-A-N-G instead. LOL!!

The Van driver also brought us to this below store to shop for some famous Davao delicacies. Along this road we were able to buy the famous POMELO. Actually all I can remember was we bought bunch of pomelo and not the sweets displayed at this store.

Souvenir Shops at Philippine Eagle Center

The souvenir shops were located beside this signboard. You can find them before you enter the Davao City Water District's watershed. The first entrance fee is also collected at this place. If you can recall, The Philippine Eagle Center is located inside this watershed. Another entrance fee is collected by the center itself. They also have a souvenir shop inside but we suggest to do your shopping here.

Now let us take a peek and check what items we can afford from these shops.

What attract us most were the colorful display all throughout the shops. The colors were very lively, vibrant and typical. That makes each item unique and worth keeping.

The sight was so good for the eye but not for our pocket. Good thing that these kids were with their mothers. I am not saying that these were expensive but with our numbers, we might be spending big time if we were not careful.

These kids here get a souvenir for this trip. At least their aunts and mothers were able to buy these items for them, haha!! Just a tip, if you haggle please buy the item. These locals may not like it if they give in and you will still not get the item.

JACK'S BEACH RESORT - Magay, Compostela, Cebu

We are planning to have another summer outing and this time we are looking for a beach resort just near our home. We noticed this signboard and decided to inquire about it this morning.

This street is located in between the "The Flying V" gasoline station and "Green Lagoon Beach Resort". You will just have to go straight and upon seeing the shore you will notice a row of private resorts stretching from left to right. Jack's Beach Resort is at your right around five beach houses away.

This resort has an orange gate and with enough parking spaces inside. It offers rooms and cottages for rent. The place is just enough for small groups  and is quite private.

The entrance fee is P100 per head for adults and P50 for kids. The entrance fee includes the use of swimming pool.

This cottage here is facing the sea and is priced at P300. This is the best cottage to stay when you planned to visit this place.

 The comfort room is clean and seems to be comfortable. We are hoping that this can pass someone's standard haha!

We planned to do some snorkeling around this area. The left side is a sanctuary while the right side is a lagoon. That is why we are hoping to see plenty of fishes should we spend one of our holidays in here.

Fauna and Flora at Philippine Eagle Center

Aside from the eagles, the center is also the shelter of some endemic animals and plants.

This is also our first time to see a Durian bearing a fruit so we always look up and point those fruits for everyone to see. Of course, we all took our pictures with the fruit above. (trip lang)

Below birds should be doves. I am not sure or maybe I can no longer remember it correctly. They are the luckiest bird in this sanctuary because they are free to roam around the center. They can even get out anytime. They must have allowed human to touch them, otherwise, they will not be putting that signboard on their abode.

Speaking of fauna, this is our first time to see a Rambutan shrub/tree. I am not sure if it is a tree or shrub because all we know is the fruit sold in the market. We all gather around this plant to have a souvenir photo.

I never knew that Anahaw, our national leaf bears a fruit. But then it did and that knowledge is surprising. Time for another souvenir photo again!!

So, they also have Baboy Ramo around the corner. The pig may still be very wild for we were not able to locate them.

Only this creature graces our presence. Their warty pig is a snob.

I thinks she is a baby doe. She seems frightened and is about to outrun us. Haha!!

Ang Mga Amo sa Philippine Eagle Center

The Philippine Eagle Center not only caters the Philippine Monkey Eagles but also the monkeys as well. We have more fun watching those monkeys because unlike eagles who always stay regal on their own thrones, monkeys are always playful, witty and lively to look at.

Their sanctuary is like an island. This little haven has been surrounded by running water. As what we have learn from a famous folklore, monkeys cannot swim and will never venture on water. This confine should have been inspired by that idea and I admire the wisdom behind this set-up.

It seems that feeding is done using the running water around the enclosure. Monkeys are wise enough to finds ways of retrieving these food particles from the water. Watching them like this is simply fascinating.

We will just hope that the eagles inside the aviaries will not be able to escape and find these monkeys as an easy prey. I am sure that those eagles can smell and fell their presence from wherever they are.

The Eagles inside "The Philippine Eagle Center" Aviary

The Philippine Eagle Center is a huge forest where the aviaries of some endemic birds are build. It is very important to stay on the narrow path to keep you away from the wild. Should you not be careful then this creepy insect should be able to keep you on track.

Giants spiders are everywhere. The birds are inside the cage, that could be the reason why they are able to increase their scary population. They are as big as my palm and yes, it is my first time to see them that huge.

Pag-asa is the famous Philippine Monkey Eating Eagle, as she is the first sprout of hope of this preservation project. Being the first of its kind to be successfully hatched and bred inside the Philippine Eagle Center is not an easy feat.

Below eagle is named Fighter. He lost his right wing during his capture. Fortunately, he was saved and was brought to the center. He can no longer fly but he stays proud and regal as he stand on his own throne. This mighty bird is indeed a symbol of inspiration to all Filipinos most especially to me. Haha!! Great bird!!!

So, where is Dakila? She is just relaxing somewhere!!
